Stereo Shops Suck!
The previous owner took this car to a stereo shop to install a stereo and a subwoofer, this is what I found.
Read more below.
That is a 4g wire running through the firewall with no grommet to keep the bare sharp steel edges from chaffing through the wire’s insulation causing a direct short with a FAT wire. This is the kind of stuff that cases car fires. They did at least do the very least bit of effort and put a fuse on the line but that is not enough! I suspected this would be the case so as soon as I took possession of the car I removed it’s fuse (pictured below).
So now I have a spare spool of good wire for whatever I want to do with it. If I decide to add a subwoofer to the trunk I will just do what the stereo shop should have done and tap into the spare 80A circuit in the trunk. That circuit is doing nothing but waiting there, a police package Crown Vic has some nice little extras!
That’s all for now. More projects later.
