1988 XJ – The Chief

October 2006, Hell’s Revenge, Moab, Utah
I picked this old Jeep up for $500 from a guy out in Murietta. It had a fresh 4.0, a functional Peugeot BA/10, gold paint, and a Dana 35 rear axle. It didn’t have four of the teeth on the 35′s ring gear. I wanted it for a stocker so the blown 35 wasn’t a big deal since stock axles are a dime a dozen and about as cheap. After a three month battle with the DMV to get a title (long story that starts in Canada) I was able to drive it.
Right now here is how it sits:
- 1988 Jeep Cherokee Chief
- Manual windows and door locks
- Power leather seats with Rugged Ridge Seat Vest covers
- Still gold
- High pinion Dana 30 and Chrysler 29 spline 8.25 with 3.55:1 gears, open/open.
- 30″ x 9.50″ BF Goodrich All Terrain KO tires on Jeep Grizzley wheels.
- Mopar skid package, front tow hooks, and Mopar tow package
I parted this vehicle out in late December 2009 in favor if the ninety six.
