New Section – Maps & Trails!

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

I’ve added a new section to the site, Maps & Trails, I’ll be slowly filling this section with maps of my favorite trails around the country plus other accurate maps that I’ve collected along the way.  Right now I’ve stocked it with my USFS region 5 (California) maps to get it started.

John Bull Trail – A Curse Lifted

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Well since I had a day off work and nothing to do I decided to head up to Big Bear to finally knock John Bull off the list.  Instead of making it a full trip I just called up Josh and Cal and the three of us went up there and attacked it stealth-like.  This was during an unusually cold period (it hadn’t gotten above freezing in about a week) so the snow was still a beautiful fine power that wisped across the road with a slight breeze, there was also very little ice to be found since the snow wasn’t melting.

The only misadventure to be had was me getting out of my Jeep in a gas station parking lot…  My foot found a nice ice spot and down I went.

As a side note: The highest temperature we saw all day was 24° F.

2nd Annual SoCal Fest

Friday, May 5th, 2006

Well it was time for the next NAXJA Southern California chapter SoCal Fest in Big Bear.  As usual we started out with trail maintenance on Friday and then played on Saturday and Sunday.  This time around I brought the Chief as the red Jeep was in pretty sad shape and the Chief was new to me; I also found the prospect of wheeling a stocker again to be nice.

Rockin’ XJ Jamboree – Johnson Valley

Saturday, November 19th, 2005

Well Richard’s annual weekend before JV trip was opened to the public as an actual event this year so I had to go and look at all the fun.  I didn’t do much wheeling as my Jeep isn’t too hard…   The plan was to ride along with Rick Norman on Wrecking Ball…  Unfortunately he lost a shaft in the rear axle at hte start of the trail and decided not to continue.  We drove back to camp, jumped in my Jeep, and went to the back side of Wrecking ball to watch them.  As we arrived they were at the waterfall.  On Sunday I hung around camp and went over to Backdoor to watch people try, after that I went home.  It was a good time for sure!
